Re-colonization Effort at Arizona State University

Eric Kelley, Sigma Triton ’06 (Penn State)

Junior Charge Consultant

It is with great pleasure that we announce the establishment of the Epsilon Triton Colony of Theta Delta Chi this coming fall semester. Driven by the love of a very energetic Alumni base, the momentum has been building for years to return to Arizona State University. This project coupled with our planned return to UCLA in 2008 marks the beginning of a renewed presence for the Old Lady in the west. Excitement for our return to ASU has been further fueled by overwhelming support from the University. They are welcoming us back with open arms and have pledged to help us anyway they can to assist a smooth transition back to campus.

Charge Consultant Eric Kelley has been finalizing plans for six weeks of on-campus recruitment and training throughout parts of August, September, and October this year in what looks to be a long-overdue re-opening. If you have any potential candidates for the new colony or would simply like to check on the progress, please contact him at ekelley@tdx.org.

The following notable section contained in the 1961 Official Petitioning Booklet suggests that today's endeavors are reminiscent of Epsilon Triton's original founding fathers' quick ascension into the ranks of Theta Delta Chi. By this time next year, we may be welcoming the newest Epsilon Triton brothers.

"With the presentation of this petition, Delta Delta Colony of Theta Delta Chi, at Arizona State University, has created a new and important landmark in the 114-year history of our fraternity. It is the first group of undergraduates, authorized and created by Convention action, to seek a charter."

"The history of other colonization efforts at Arizona State University provided more than adequate authority for the prevalent idea that no colony could attain charter status during its first year on the campus. But early in the second semester& it became obvious even to the skeptics that Theta Delta Chi's youngster was actually within striking distance of its goal. The third progress report had been filed and accepted, and the Colony had safely cleared the scholastic hurdle, but it needed five or six more good men to meet minimum requirements for Council membership."

"It would have been any easy matter at this point to put out six or even a dozen Delta Delta pledge pins, for Theta Delta Chi was rapidly gaining recognition as one of the 'top' fraternities at Arizona State. It was not the largest group by any means but the quality of the Desert Deut men and their appearance on campus were definitely making a real and vital impression."

In re-colonizing Epsilon Triton, we are not venturing into uncharted territory, but rather revitalizing the very successful roots of the Charge. With the founding fathers as our inspiration and a very passionate alumni base to support us, Epsilon Triton looks once again to be the pride of Theta Delta Chi.
